Shipping adult birds

clip_image001_0000Big birdsUSPS has revised its regulations on the shipping of adult birds. The new regulations go into effect Tuesday, Sept. 3.

According to Domestic Mail Manual 601.9.3.4, the list of disease-free adult birds that could previously be shipped domestically only included adult chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, doves, pigeons, pheasants, partridges, quail, ducks, geese and swans.

Under the revised rule, USPS will allow the shipment of any disease-free live adult birds weighing up to 25 pounds. The mailer and the mailing must comply with all applicable government laws and regulations.
